Caravan Days 12 – 14 Port Arenas (Corpus Christi) Texas Miles 2283

After Galveston, we took the scenic route or Port Arenas – just outside of Corpus Christi. This included a free ferry ride into town and we pulled into a very nice RV resort.

Port Arenas is a fishing/tourist town just off the Gulf of Mexico (sorry Trump). It’s main claim to fame seems to be the Farley Boat Works and the fact that Franklin Roosevelt fished here in 1937.

The Farley boats were (we think) the last of the wooden boats made for the gulf fisheries. Everywhere you look in town there are these little concrete “Farley” boat planters.

We are sure Port Arenas, with its magnificent clouds of mosquitos, is a fine place to fish and perhaps spend some time of the magnificent beaches they have, but all in all we preferred Galveston
